A defibrillator has been installed at Caithness Livestock Centre at Quoybrae thanks to the efforts of a Watten woman, with help from the local heart support group.

The cost of the potentially life-saving equipment was partly met by Jacqueline Mackay who raised £1100 through a birthday fundraiser. Her father, James Mackay, who farms at Biggins, had suffered a heart attack some time previously and Jacqueline thought that having a defibrillator on standby at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' busy centre would be a practical precaution.

The project was supported by Caithness Heart Support Group which stepped in to provide the balance of £825.
