Votes for local community representatives in Thurso, Watten, Melvich and the Bettyhill, Strathnaver and Altnaharra areas will be counted from next week as the deadline approaches.

People in the community council areas have until noon on Monday, November 27 to return their postal ballot papers.

A total of 10 community councils across the Highland region are being contested, including the four in the far north.

The votes will be counted immediately after the deadline of noon on Monday with the process broadcast live on Highland Council’s social media channels.
