Day of celebration at Halkirk Primary School for new canopy

HPS says that the canopy, which promises to provide much-needed shelter and a communal space for outdoor learning and various events, was made possible through the “generous contributions of several local organisations”. Representatives from the Halkirk District Benefit Fund, ABH Fund, Foundation Scotland, Caithness North Sutherland Fund and Parent Council members were present to cut the ribbon and officially open the canopy. Local firm, Westfield Timber, is involved in supplying benches, planters and plants for the canopy area.

The ribbon was cut by Gillian Coghill and Linda Malik, along with pupils Mya Dunnett and Adam Waller.

The ceremony began with a few words from Fiona MacLeod, head teacher, who expressed gratitude for the support of the organisations that funded the project and the collaborative effort that brought the project to fruition.

Following the speeches, the ribbon was cut by Gillian Coghill and Linda Malik along with two pupils, Mya Dunnett, who is the youngest pupil in the school, and Adam Waller, the eldest. Attendees were invited to explore the new structure.

The event concluded with refreshments and a tour of the canopy, highlighting its features and the benefits it will bring to the school community.
