A local crafting project has successfully reached the end of its initial programme of four sewing workshops.

Craft from the Croft Caithness (CCC) ran workshops through November starting with the first two at the Pentland Hotel, Thurso, to the last one on December 2 in the Ross Institute, Halkirk.

CCC let attendees use the eight sewing machines that were bought at the start of the project and which will be lent out to interested groups. Local project manager, Louise Smith, can be contacted on 07776 225 549 or louinscot@aol.com for groups to arrange to borrow them.

The project is funded by RWE Bad a Cheo Wind Farm Community Fund (Halkirk), administered by Foundation Scotland.

It is hoped to run more pilot workshops in the New Year in other locations across the county. The sewing classes for 6-12 people can be for complete beginners or people looking to revive their skills. Other potential locations are encouraged to contact the project.

It is also hoped to establish a sewing group that meets regularly in Halkirk. Six sessions on Saturdays from January 21 to the end of February have been booked and sewing machines have been lent to the group. Any interested people from the Halkirk area should contact Louise at CCC. In addition the project hopes to hold sessions in Wick and Watten in March 2024.
