Covid statistics show 179 new cases in Caithness

There were 91 new Covid-19 cases in Wick, and 179 across Caithness as a whole, in the latest seven-day period recorded by Public Health Scotland.

Among the county's seven neighbourhoods, Wick North and Wick South had the highest numbers of positive tests with 49 and 42 respectively based on people tested for the virus between February 8 and 14.

It meant Wick North had a seven-day rate per 100,000 population of 1546.2 – the third highest in the Highland Council area during the seven-day period – while Wick South's rate was 1228.1.

There were 29 positive tests in Caithness North West, 25 in Caithness South, 13 each in Caithness North East and Thurso West, and eight in Thurso East.

There were 32 positive tests in the Sutherland South neighbourhood, 22 in Sutherland East and 19 in Sutherland North and West.

Positive cases across the Highland local authority area from February 8-14 totalled 1823, with a seven-day positive rate per 100,000 population of 774.3 for the region as a whole.
