A further 15 Covid-19 cases have been detected in the Highlands, but the number of patients in the region's hospitals has fallen slightly.

Figures released by the Scottish Government this afternoon confirmed that there are now 137 coronavirus diagnoses in the NHS Highland area.

Nationally, Scotland recorded 392 new cases to bring the overall total to 4957.

The number of people who have died was also up, rising 81 to 447.

However, in the Highlands there was a slight fall in the number of people receiving hospital treatment for the virus – down to 56 from yesterday's tally of 61. Six of those were in intensive care last night – the same number as Wednesday.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, NHS Grampian recorded 13 new cases (up from 223 to 236), and was also treating more people in hospital. Seventy-three people were in hospital at midnight (up from 62) and two more patients were in intensive care (13).

Shetland and Orkney recorded no new cases of the virus, but the figure in the Western Isles rose to five.

And NHS Tayside posted a jump in cases to 667 from 586, but was treating 25 fewer people in hospital (109, down from 134) than the same point yesterday.
