Countdown under way for Quoybrae’s Christmas show and sale
The countdown is under way for Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ annual Caithness Christmas show and sale at Quoybrae mart.
The show will get under way at 6.45pm on Monday, December 2, with the judging of the prime lambs and prime cattle sections, followed by the baby beef competition. The sale begins at 10am on Tuesday, December 3.
Entries for all sections close on Wednesday, November 27, at 5pm.
Scott Chapman, northern sales manager at Aberdeen and Northern Marts, said: “We encourage everyone to get their entries in before the closing date, ahead of the annual Christmas show.
“The event offers a fantastic opportunity for exhibitors across the north of Scotland to show their top-quality prime cattle and sheep.

“We are also delighted to see the baby beef competition return for a second year, supporting the next generation of stockmanship.”
Blair Duffton, of Huntly, is to judge the open and Young Farmers’ prime cattle section, sponsored by NFU Mutual of Thurso and Dingwall.
The baby beef competition, sponsored by Vauldale Engineering, will be judged by Mark Munro, Invercharron, Ardgay.
The competition aims to encourage Young Farmers to practise their showmanship ahead of the overwintering competition in April.
This year’s prime lamb sections will be judged by Scott McRobbie, Woodhead Brothers, Turriff. The open pairs of prime lambs section is sponsored by Fiona and Cath of the Home Bakery, Wick, while Duncan and Todd (Wick) is sponsoring the Young Farmers’ pairs of prime lambs.
The pen of 10 untrimmed lambs is sponsored by Wullie Gulloch and will be judged by Hugh McRae, Tarves.
At last year’s show a top price of £3000 was achieved in the prime cattle section for a Limousin cross bullock from G W Begg, scaling 630kg, selling to Mackays Hotel, Wick.
The champion pair of prime lambs consigned from C Angus, West Mey, was a pair of 54kg Beltex which realised £520 to the same buyer.
