Highland Council shared a road condition report for Caithness saying that treatment for ice is ongoing.

The report for today (December 7) posted at 8.15am states that primary routes in Caithness "are mainly clear" but there are damp and ice patches in areas.

It continues: "Secondary routes have areas of frozen slush and ice patches – treatment applied and spot gritting where necessary. Treatment on-going for footpaths, some small ice patches getting treated. No overnight issues reported."

For Sutherland it states: "Primary routes mainly damp roads. Secondary routes contain icy patches and sections of frozen slush on higher ground – these areas are being treated."

Maps of the council’s gritting routes by priority and policy are available online at www.highland.gov.uk/gritting

The council say that the information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.

"It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling."
