A TALENTED young artist who attends Wick High School has won a regional competition organised by the one of the world’s best-known festivals.

Connor Mackay (12) was named as the Highland and Moray regional winner of the 2012 Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society Schools Poster Competition.

The Fringe’s annual competition, which is now in its 32nd year, attracted more than 3000 entries from 124 different schools.

The poster was praised by the judges for capturing the spirit of the event and chief executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society Kath Mainland said that against a very high standard Connor’s picture impressed judges the most.

“It was truly difficult for us to choose the winners but Connor’s picture was named the regional winner because it met the judges’ criteria of being fun, striking, eye-catching and colourful.”

His poster will be displayed at the Museum of Childhood in Edinburgh from Monday, May 28, until the end of August along with other regional winners.
