Community representatives in Thurso were continuing their bid to deactivate an unauthorised Facebook site purporting to be theirs.

Thurso Community Council said at their meeting earlier this week that they would be stepping up their efforts to have it taken down.

However, since the meeting, the site in question now appears to be unavailable.

Speaking at its latest monthly meeting on Tuesday evening, secretary Iain Gregory said: "I have been spoken to by a number of members of the public regarding this Facebook site.

"Our Facebook page is run by (treasurer) Elspeth (Husband) but there's another one bearing the logo of Thurso Community Council which has nothing to do with us."

It appears at the top of the search list and states: "We are unaffiliated to Thurso or any Community Council in Caithness. All must be held to account.”

Mr Gregory said it is very misleading and needs to be taken down.

Mrs Husband said: "The community must be finding it very confusing if they are going on to the wrong Facebook page."

On the proposal of member James Campbell, it was agreed to seek advice from Highland Council's legal department.

The official Thurso Community Council Facebook page can be found here.
