Concert is followed by lively ceilidh at annual Thurso rally
Thurso and District Strathspey and Reel Society’s annual rally attracted a large crowd to the town’s Royal British Legion club on Saturday night.
The rally included a concert followed by a lively ceilidh. Ceud Mile Fàilte (A Hundred Thousand Welcomes) commenced the evening and the varied concert programme included strathspeys, polkas, marches and airs.
Guest artiste was Bernadette Nicol who played a selection of pieces on clarsach, including the beautiful Seals At Rhu.
After the interval and some much-needed refreshments, the ceilidh commenced with the Gay Gordons. Proceedings were overseen by leader George Pain and deputy Margaret Sutherland, while local dancers were on hand to show visitors what to do.
The ceilidh included favourites such as the Dashing White Sergeant, Virginia Reel, Circassian Circle and Strip the Willow.
The dancers were still going strong at 11.30pm when it was time for Auld Lang Syne. A rousing rendition of Banjo Breakdown, always popular with the younger fiddle players, rounded off the evening.
