Coastline textures inspire Wick-based jeweller's new collection
A local jeweller is preparing to launch her new collection that has been inspired by the textures of the Caithness coastline.
Wick-based Kelly Munro has developed a range that she says reflects the unique layers of stone found along cliff faces and sea caves.
Kelly said: “As an artist it’s important for me to launch a new collection to keep my jewellery fresh and evolving.
"Trying the new technique of carving and casting has given me new opportunities in my designs to focus more on textures, and replicating the cliff-face textures as closely as possible.
"This collection is very different from previous collections and it felt like a natural step forward using a distinct technique and style.”

The Cliffs and Caves collection has been in the works for about three years, with Kelly initially studying stone textures at Berriedale and Wick. She also gathered footage while aboard the Caithness Seacoast RIB which helped with the direction of the final designs, and the photography of the collection.
“There had been a lot of thinking involved before I finally had that eureka moment when the first design came to mind and I was able to start drawing," she said.
"The next stage was translating my sketches into a 3D form, followed by creating lots of test pieces before selecting which pieces would be cast into silver for the final collection.
"The items in the final collection are modern, heavily textured, but simple in form – creating a perfect balance, and very wearable everyday pieces of jewellery."
Kelly’s Cliffs and Caves collection will be launched at her annual pop-up shop at the Norseman Hotel in Wick on Friday, November 18, from 4pm-9pm, and Saturday 19th between 10am and 5pm, and on www.kellymunrojewellery.co.uk
Kelly is inviting the public to view the collection pieces, with complimentary glasses of prosecco on the Friday night. Kelly’s full range of jewellery, lampshades, paintings and Christmas items will also be available to purchase.
