THE doors will close on a bank in Thurso for the final time as the town centre says goodbye to a long established branch.

Clydesdale Bank shuts down its office at Traill Street today as it is one of 40 branches across Scotland that are being closed.

The Clydesdale Bank said it made the decision to reduce the number of branches across Scotland due to the number of customers using its banks for day-to-day transactions having fallen by a third since 2011.

They said the ongoing decline together with growth in digital and mobile engagement has driven the company to providing greater access to digital banking services.

The Clydesdale Bank declined to comment how many jobs at the Thurso branch are affected but that a consultation process was ongoing.

The bank’s outlet at Bridge Street in Wick will remain open.
