Dunbeath Castle has been listed in the top 10 most popular properties for sale in 2023 by an online estate agents.

The “magnificent” 13-bedroom cliff-top castle was put up for sale in June along with its extensive grounds, which extend to 28,500 acres.

Property site Zoopla put Dunbeath castle and estate in Caithness as its eighth most popular set of particulars, saying it attracted people “dreaming of escaping to the Scottish Highlands”.

Zoopla said of the castle: “It sits in the most dramatic coastal setting just steps from the ocean and surrounded by its own 28,500 acres. The land is made up of beautiful walled gardens, grouse moor, deer forest, pheasant shoot, 12.5 miles of river and a 500-acre farm. Wow.”

The property is on the market for offers over £25 million. As well as the category "A" listed cliff-top castle, the sale includes 20 houses and cottages, a farm, a sporting lodge with nine bedrooms, a deer forest, grouse moor and fishing rights.

The estate and castle are being marketed by property agents Savills.

Speaking as the property went to market last year, Savills' Evelyn Channing said: “This sale represents an opportunity to acquire one of Scotland’s great castles and an estate in the Flow Country. At a time when there is great focus on the delivery of nature-based solutions to counter our climate emergency, the vast tracts of peatland on Dunbeath will undoubtedly stimulate much interest.

"The current owners have invested a great deal of time, love and capital into Dunbeath Estate over the last 26 years and are now keen to see it develop and prosper further under the ownership of a new custodian who shares their enthusiasm for Caithness and has an exciting vision for its future.”
