AROUND 200 children and adults attended a day of activities at North Lands Creative in Lybster.

The Christmas open day attracted visitors from throughout the county to enjoy a variety of glass workshops and demonstrations.

A festive glass-fusing workshop, where participants were invited to create their own unique fused glass decoration, was led by North Lands Creative (NCL) technical manager Michael Bullen and intern artist Natsumi Jones.

A hands-on bauble-making demonstration with NLC associate artist Emma Baker allowed visitors to experience hot glass-blowing, while local glass artist Ian Pearson showcased his flame-working skills to craft a winter wonderland scene.

In addition, children enjoyed a number of Christmas paper craft activities and there was hot chocolate and treats for all.

The open day was supported by the Caithness and North Sutherland Fund and the Lybster and Tannach and E.ON Camster community funds, along with NLC community design house ambassadors Helen Budge and Vicky Gordon, who volunteered their time to help run activities, and Mackenzie Gordon, who photographed the event, having received training from local photographer Angus Mackay at a summer school for young people.

Laura O’Kane, general manager at NCL, said: "It is hugely important for NLC to have the opportunity to work with local funders to deliver creative activities within the local community.

"We are delighted to be able to invite both children and adults to the studio to participate in these workshops and hope we can inspire creativity, build confidence and open up avenues for artistic practice in people's lives.

"We are also hugely appreciative to everyone that came along to support the event and get involved. It has been a wonderful social opportunity for NLC to make connections and grow our friendships within the Caithness community."

The open day was part of Scotland's Workshops Week – a government-supported national campaign to highlight the importance of Scotland's art workshops.
