An icy plunge may not be everyone's idea of a fun start to Christmas Day – but for a hardy group of outdoor swimming enthusiasts at Wick's North Baths it was an exhilarating experience.
About 16 of them got together for an 11am dip in the popular pool on the north side of Wick Bay, many marking the occasion by donning festive hats. The sun was shining but the air temperature was a cool four degrees Celsius, with the wind-chill making it feel considerably colder.
As the swimmers emerged from the water, suitably invigorated, one said it had been an “emotional” start to Christmas morning, adding: “It was fun.”
Another, when asked how it had felt, replied: “Very chilly!”
