Charity pair prepare for Groats cycle challenge

THE only way is Essex – that’s how two men from the English county are viewing their Land’s End to John O’Groats cycling challenge which starts on Monday.

Andy Griffin (43) and Neal Saych (42), from Thaxted, hope to complete the journey in 10 days, covering around 100 miles a day.

The trip is in aid of the Papworth Hospital Mesothelioma Research Trust.

The men will travel with just a small saddle bag and will have no support vehicles.

Neal lost his father, Clive, to mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer related to asbestos in 2010 at the age of 68, so it is a charity close to his heart.

Their tour takes them from Land’s End through Okehampton, Bristol, Bridgnorth, Preston, Carlisle, Glasgow, Fort William, Inverness and Tongue with a scheduled arrival date in John O’Groats of July 4.

Anyone wishing to donate to the charity can do so via www.justgiving.com

Follow their progress by logging on to www.cancerbike.com and checking out the blog, which will be updated daily with photos and news.
