Charity cycle end-to-ender reaches Groats

A ROSS-Shire man has cycled the length of Britain in only five-and-a-half days and raised nearly £27,000 for five cancer charities in the process.

David Hay set off from Land’s End on Christmas Day on his Big Icicle ride and made it to John O’Groats on Wednesday.

He set himself the challenge after he lost his wife Janie to cancer in November 2013. His aim was to raise awareness and money for the cancer charities. So far he has raised £26,904.40 for the cause.

Mr Hay, who comes from Conon Bridge, rode the 870 miles on his own but was supported by his friend, Richard, who followed him in a camper van.
