PEOPLE in Caithness and elsewhere in the Highlands can get an chance to shape future development in their area.

They have been asked for the views following the publication of Highland Council's Development Plans Newsletter, which outlines how and when people can get involved in shaping future development plans.

Councillor, Ken Gowans, the chairman of the economy and infrastructure committee, said: "Our latest Development Plans Newsletter provides a helpful summary of upcoming opportunities for people to get involved in the planning for their area. The newsletter also demonstrates our keenness to make sure our consultation process is as effective as possible for everyone involved."

The document provides updates on the council’s four current local development plans, and introduces the new single Highland Local Development Plan, plus the evidence gathering, monitoring, and consultation that will inform the new plan. It also describes how community groups might go about preparing a Local Place Plan, since Scottish Government announced the initiative designed to encourage communities to play an active role in the planning for their area.

The council says it is keen "to ensure that the approach to consultation works for the people and organisations who are living, working, and investing in the region."

The public can submit their views on the suitability of the approach to consultation on the development plans through a survey which is open until 5pm on May 31.
