Thurso and District Pipe Band is hosting a ceilidh to celebrate its 110th anniversary next weekend.

The pipe band plays during the summer from June to September on Princes Street in Thurso as well as at galas, Highland games and events throughout the north of Scotland, while providing their services free of charge for a number of charities.

Some highlights of the band over its long history have been their trips to Brilon in Germany, Thurso's twin town, in 2002 and 2005, New York Tartan Week in 2004, The Cadans Festival in Markello, Holland in 2009, The Pan Celtic Festival in Carlow, Republic of Ireland in 2013 and The St Gallen Tattoo in Switzerland in 2016.

It also played at the opening and closing of the Royal National Mod which was held in Caithness for the first time in October 2010.

Over its 110 years the band has been indebted to the people and businesses of Thurso, Caithness and beyond for their help and support to keep the band running and making it a success.

The ceilidh takes place on Friday, October 6, at the Royal British Legion in Thurso, with music from Eclipse. Tickets, costing £10, are available from the Legion. Doors open at 8pm.
