Primary seven children at Castletown have been doing their bit for the Blythswood Shoebox Appeal.

The pupils wrapped shoeboxes for the local Blythswood team, coordinated by Christine Stone, to be collected by the Christian charity’s lorry early next month.

The annual campaign sees boxes filled with essentials and gifts being distributed to parts of eastern Europe where people are in need, including those affected by the war in Ukraine.

Castletown P7 teacher Lindsay Coghill said: “The pupils were delighted to be part of this yearly community help and put into practice many life skills, such as accurate measuring, careful cutting, folding and sticking, teamwork and strong communication skills.

“Many of them said how it makes them feel good and proud to make their contribution to the appeal for people who are less fortunate than they are.

“These boxes will now be filled by Mrs Stone and her team of volunteers before being collected by the Blythswood lorry on November 7.”

Anyone wishing to donate to the appeal can deliver items to Castletown and Community Free Church, or school families can bring them to Castletown primary after the October holidays.
