The court was told that the incident, in the early hours of December 9 last year, occurred outside the Commercial Bar in Thurso. The accused and his sister were outside along with other patrons and were engaged in an argument during which he punched her once.

Sheriff Neil Wilson was told that the incident was out of character for McPhee who was “ashamed and embarrassed” by the assault.

The accused, of Trail Street, Castletown, and his sister, were normally on good terms and she had forgiven him for the assault.
