Doug Fraser says ‘other commitments’ have led to his decision to stand down as a community councillor.

CASTLETOWN community council chairman Doug Fraser is to leave his post later this year.

He announced his intention to stand down at Thursday’s meeting when he said he would not be seeking re-election.

Mr Fraser, who has been the community council chairman for five years, said he had "too many other commitments" and thought the forthcoming elections in November would be a good time to go.

Mr Fraser also revealed that he will not seek re-election as a community councillor.

He said he enjoyed his time as chairman but felt that five years in the post was long enough.

"It’s time for someone else to take over," said Mr Fraser, who argued that the organisation has an important role to play.

"We need to have a strong community council to fight for what we want," he added.

The community council elections take place on Wednesday, November 16.
