Tickets to see the gardens at the Castle of Mey have been in high demand with limited availability already for September.

Since the gardens were opened to the public again on August 13, both locals and visitors to the county have been quick to book the half hour online slots.

Catherine Sargent, website and social media editor for the attraction, said: "We have sold out quite a lot of days – it has been quite popular, which we are delighted about.

"Almost every day we are booked up. We have limited availability in September as we have had a great response.

"People have been enjoying getting to see the gardens which have plenty of colour and all the smells of the flowers have been coming out. We have had a lot of happy people."

After looking around the gardens, which have a one-way system set up for safety, visitors can walk around other parts of the grounds even though the castle is currently closed.

The head gardener Chris Parkinson and his team have recently been working on new features such as the garden of reflections which creates a mirror image for visitors to enjoy. There are also new fruit cages and a wild flower area.

Catherine added: "I think after being in lockdown for so long it is nice that people can enjoy the outdoors and they can see lots of hard work that the gardeners have been doing.

"It has really been lovely. It is nice to see people delighted to be coming to see the gardens again. It obviously has been a difficult year for all of us."

The gardens are open through the week until the end of September – Monday to Friday, 11am to 2.30pm. The half-hour timed entry slots can be booked online through the Castle of Mey website.
