BANANAS in Pyjamas, Dennis the Menace, and Bugs Bunny helped Thurso High School raise a grand and a half for Children in Need last Friday.
Colourful characters abounded at the school in support of the BBC’s annual charity appeal.
A huge range of pupils and staff paid £1 for the privilege of dressing up, and a large number of those appeared to have stumbled from their beds to arrive in school in their pyjamas.
Deputy head teacher Kathryn Mackay explained that they had raised the fantastic sum of £1573.54.
"It’s an amazing total to reach," she said. "We are all very, very proud of the pupil and staff contributions."
As well as the dressing-up fun the S6 fundraising committee responsible for the day’s events had provided a baking stall overflowing with Pudsey cakes, muffins, truffles and other delights.
Along with having their faces painted or their hair sprayed a rainbow of colours, pupils and staff were encouraged to guess the teddy’s birthday or have a go at finding where the treasure was buried by putting a cross on the map.
The main event was held at lunch time in the games hall where both pupils and staff were given further opportunities to contribute to the rising total by displaying their talents at limbo dancing, keepie uppies, beat the goalie or balancing on a bar while being bombarded by their opponent’s pillow.
The most popular attraction by far was the tug-of-war.
Valiant attempts by various staff teams came to nothing as the youngsters demonstrated their superiority and won the day.
Mrs Mackay said it was an "amazing" event.
"An enjoyable time was had by all," she said. "But more importantly it was evident that today’s youngsters in Thurso High are more than willing to help those less fortunate than themselves."
