Careless driving on Forss straight led to car overturning

A Wick driver failed to notice a vehicle overtaking him and caused a collision, the town's sheriff court heard this week.

Lee Robertson admitted a reduced charge of careless driving and was fined £250. The 24-year-old first offender also incurred four penalty points.

The offence occurred on August 6, last year, on a long, straight stretch of the A836 at its junction with School Place, Forss.

The court was told that Robertson had executed an overtaking manoeuvre and pulled in behind a slow-moving car.

Then, the accused pulled out to overtake it but failed to notice another vehicle coming up behind him, resulting in a collision.

Fiscal David Barclay said that Robertson's car veered to its wrong side of the road and hit a wall and overturned. He sustained minor injuries.

Solicitor Alex Burn said that Robertson, a mechanical technician, of Breadalbane Terrace, Wick, failed to see the other vehicle and thought it must have been in a blind spot.
