Careless driver went up to 90mph on A9 at Achavanach

A Reay man who drove at speeds of up to 90mph on a main highway was fined £300 at Wick Sheriff Court on Monday.

Jordon Crawford (27) also incurred six penalty points after he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of careless driving.

His solicitor, Greg Smith, said that it was a quiet summer evening when police stopped Crawford because he was clearly well in excess of the 60mph limit on the A9 at Achavanach, on May 15, last year.

Mr Smith said that the accused, of The Crescent, Reay, had immediately accepted responsibility for the offence and had allowed his speed to "creep up".

The solicitor added that Crawford relied on his licence for his job which involves ground maintenance and to attend to two horses at stables 30 miles from his home.
