Residents at Pentland View care home in Thurso have been going quackers over baby ducks.

Five cute ducklings were born there in the space of a week, with the first hatching being witnessed by resident Marion Owen.

Residents were able to pet and feed the newcomers as they found their footing in their temporary home.

In addition to teaching the ducklings how to eat and drink, the residents enjoyed watching them as they learned to paddle and dive in a pool provided by activities coordinator Jeanine Sinclair.

The ducklings even featured in one of the home’s weekly intergenerational music classes – and the song Five Little Ducks had special significance.

Jeanine said: “This was such a wonderful experience for the residents, staff and all visitors to the home. It has been a real source of joy for everyone and tied in so well with Dementia Action Week.

“These little guys, who have been named Bananas, Hawk, Spike, Chico and Waddles by residents and staff, have met various sensory and emotional needs for the residents – many of whom remember raising ducks and chickens of their own.”
