Wick Flower Baskets is to hold its AGM on February 28 at 7pm in the Mowat Room of Wick Assembly Rooms and the committee would love to see new volunteers.

Last year, the organisation had the welcome addition of four new volunteers and, with the help of John and Marie Yendall's colourful jeep, watering the plants during the long dry spell was made easier.

The group had lots of favourable comments about the flower displays, which have helped to brighten up the town and harbour area. With the threat of more shop closures, the group feel it is important to make the town look as attractive as possible for locals, as well as visitors.

"We are also extending our remit to helping residents in Upper Dunbar Street maintain an area of ground which is neglected, and by adding new perennials," said committee member Eswyl Fell. "If we gain more volunteers, this could be extended to other areas of the town.

"If you feel you would like to join our group to help improve the town, even committing to a few days this summer would be of great help. It is a voluntary group, with no obligations. We would also like to see more men join our group to help repair, paint and move our tubs."
