Fifteen-year-old Camilla Elder is this year's Wick RNLI young helper of the year.

She was presented with the award, an engraved salver, by Murray Lamont, chairman of the Wick lifeboat management committee, during the annual Harbour Day fundraiser at the weekend.

Mr Lamont said: "It's excellent to get young people involved and for them to show that they're willing to give up their time to help a charity. It's fantastic."

Coxswain Allan Lipp said: "The youngsters are the future of the station as well so it's an important thing to us – not just in crewing the boat but helping to fundraise and keep the RNLI afloat as a whole."

Camilla was also one of the musicians who performed as part of the programme of live entertainment on the quayside.

Prizes were handed over later for the best-dressed local and visiting boats. These were accepted by, respectively, George Durrand for CD Venture and Mairi Innes, who had sailed up from Findochty in Moondance.
