Highland Council admitted it had wrong information on a CCTV sign beside it's Wick offices but said it would be changed when it had the resources.

A resident was inquiring about accessing CCTV footage from Wick but found the number highlighted on the street sign just rang dead.

The unnamed man said: "These supposed CCTV cameras are a lot of good. Tried calling but it's an invalid number."

The Wick CCTV Company sign is situated in a car park beside the town's council offices and contains the following information: "CCTV is recorded for crime prevention and public safety. Please call the system data controller for more information. Telephone 01955 603551."

The phone number, however, was formerly used by Wick Police Station but is now redundant with only a dead tone coming through.

The number was that of the town's police station but now ring's dead. Highland Council said it will rectify the issue when it has the resources available.

When asked about the issue a Highland Council spokesperson said: “The council is undertaking an audit of Public Space CCTV signs to identify those that require replacement with correct information.”

The spokesperson added that Highland Council has taken over the responsibility for Public Space CCTV and the "signs will be replaced as soon as possible and as resources allow".
