Recently appointed Highland Council chief executive Derek Brown has been invited to the far north.

Highland Council's newly appointed chief executive Derek Brown is being invited to make Caithness his first port of call on his planned series of visits to outlying parts of the council's patch.

Caithness committee chairman Ron Gunn has written to Mr Brown to suggest he makes an early trip up to tour the county.

Councillor Gunn said: "There's a very strong feeling among a lot of people that we're forgotten about up here and everything is going towards Inverness.

"An early visit from you would help the situation and counter the view that we are the forgotten county."

He referred to the petition to the Scottish Government from Thurso community councillor Billy Sinclair setting out the case for the restoration of Caithness County Council and Caithness Health Board.

Mr Brown has responded thanking Mr Gunn for the invitation and indicating that he intends visiting all the council areas.

He is in the throes of organising a date for a trip to the far north.
