A PLEA has been made for some flexibility over parking areas in Thurso.

It was made at this week's meeting of Thurso Community Council by member Colin Johnston.

He said: "People come to the town to shop but where are they going to park? There has got to be some come and go for parking areas.

"We have to have a common-sense approach to this and can't keep chasing people off the street.

"Shops will be affected if we do, as people do not want to walk anywhere these days."

Community councillors hope the parking issues can be addressed with the appointment of new Highland Council parking enforcement officers.

Members think the move should improve the situation in the town and said anyone parking on a double yellow line or in a disabled space is likely "to get short shrift".

Ron Gunn, the community council chairman, welcomed the new officers and said: "We will have to wait and see how it all works out."

Meanwhile, members backed a bid by local Highland councillor Struan Mackie to get "a definitive answer" on Common Good ground in Thurso.
