Caithness to stage two more funding forums
PEOPLE are to be given a bigger say in deciding which good causes in Caithness will benefit from Highland Council’s local discretionary fund after the major success of an event held last year.
In November, Your Cash Your Caithness (YCYC) saw 13 groups from across the county receive a share of £30,000.
Now the Caithness committee has decided to stage two YCYC events in Caithness during 2016 and has invited organisations in the area to apply for funding and for members of the public to decide where it will go.
THE events will be held in May and November though the dates, venue and amounts on offer have still to be decided.
Committee chairwoman Gillian Coghill said the success of the event delighted councillors and has given them the enthusiasm to organise follow-up events.

“The atmosphere on the day was very vibrant and it was really heartening to see folk get involved and having their say on where the thought the money should go,” she said.
“Feedback has been very positive and I hope other areas of the Highlands consider holding similar events.”
The first YCYC event was held at the Pulteney Centre in Wick where members of the public listened to five minute presentations from 20 applicants before voting for who they felt deserved the money the most.
