Two dedicated local swimmers took a dip in the Pentland Firth every day during March in aid of the domestic abuse charity Refuge.

Nicola Mowat and Chris Parkinson raised more than £500 after braving waters as cold as minus 5C.

Nicola, from Westfield, is a customer services assistant at Serco NorthLink Ferries. Chris is the head gardener at the Castle of Mey.

“As a passionate swimmer, I thoroughly enjoyed taking a dip in the Pentland Firth every day in March," Nicola said.

"It was all the more rewarding with the knowledge that we were raising money for such a worthy cause as part of Refuge’s March Swim Challenge.

“I first started wild swimming with Chris in June last year and have hardly missed a day since.

"I even took the opportunity to go swimming in Orkney when I was visiting for work. I love it and find it hugely beneficial for my mental health.”
