Caithness showstoppers get their prizes

Caithness SWI members from the various institutes throughout the county have received the silverware they won at this year's county show.

The presentation took place during a coffee morning in the Wick Assembly Rooms on Saturday morning, with trophies handed over by Joanna Ross.

Ella Miller, Thrumster WI, was the first winner of a new trophy in memory of the late Irene Mackay from Keiss who was a lifelong member of Keiss WRI and held numerous offices including president at institute and federation level.

Joanna Ross’s mother, Irene died in September last year and the Irene Mackay Memorial Shield has now been donated to the Caithness Federation.

It will be awarded annually to the junior member with the best exhibit in the SWI section of the Caithness County Show.

Ella also won junior trophies for overall baking and handcrafts, most points baking and most points handcrafts.

Three generations of the Murray family, all members of Killimster WI, won trophies as well.

Margaret Murray had the best cake in the show while daughter Julie had best exhibit in the co-operative section and also won the floral art trophy awarded on the day of the presentation coffee morning.

Granddaughter Mirissa Efemey won the intermediate trophies for handcrafts and baking.
