Caithness seal charity benefits from huge fish donation

Caithness Seal Rehab and Release (CSRR) sent out a big thank you to Denholm Seafoods in Peterhead for supplying fish to the pups in its care.

The charity based at Brough relies on donations from the public as it needs tons of fish to keep the seals healthy until they can be safely released back into the seas around the far north coastline. Husband and wife team Clare and Phil Boardman are behind the charity project and have around nine volunteers helping them.

Clare said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to Denholm Seafoods who have become our new suppliers of mackerel for the pups.

“Denholm Seafoods have donated one and a half tonnes of mackerel to the hospital. In 2025 the company is hoping to donate further. This saves us a huge cost. Last year we spent over £13,000 on fish alone.

“It’s a huge cost that will now be made easier thanks to this fantastic donation. There are some companies out there that are magical, and care about what we do.”

If you wish to help the seal charity with donations there is a website with more info at: caithness-seal-rehab-release.co.uk

CSSR is the only seal sanctuary in Caithness. The other closest one is over 190 miles away on the mainland or a ferry trip to Orkney, which would make for a long and stressful trip for a young seal pup.
