Members of Thrumster SWI were given a talk by William Munro of Caithness Seacoast at their April meeting.

Marion Gordon welcomed those present and congratulated those who won prizes at the bulb show.

Kathleen Baikie won the cup for the best exhibit in show along with the tray for the best tulips. Lily Ellis accepted two cups on behalf of Thruster SWI.

After business, Marion welcomed Mr Munro, who explained a bit about his background in the merchant navy for 32 years. William and his wife Adelaine began the business in 2008 and have had a boost from the North Coast 500 visitors.

The business is registered with Highland Council and is approved for taking out schools, youth groups, children and adults with disabilities. They have the use of the hoist owned by the harbour authority to enable everyone to get on and off the boat.

The tours vary from one-and-a-half hours to three hours. There are 12 seats on the boat, but for longer trips only 10 seats are used. The oldest person they have had was 95 years old.

Marion thanked William for such an interesting and informative talk and film show. "Everyone learned something about our coast that we didn’t know and left us wanting to find out more."

She also thanked Lynn and Kim for the tea provided.

The next meeting is on May 3 at 7.30pm, when the demonstrator will be Willie Watt from the Seafarers Memorial Group.
