Will Caithness be celebrating after the final whistle tomorrow?

CUMBERNAULD is bracing itself for a green invasion as hundreds of far north rugby fans will head to the Broadwood Stadium to cheer on Caithness RFC against Preston Lodge in the SRU National Shield final.

An estimated 300 fans are expected to head south tonight and early tomorrow morning to watch the Greens compete in the first final in the club’s 52-year history.

After finishing third in Caledonia League 1, Caithness won the north regional final against Dunfermline when the Greens ran riot to destroy the Fifers 28-6 after extra time.

Last month, over 700 fans packed Millbank to see Caithness book their place in the final with a 22-17 win over Berwick.

Tomorrow’s match will mark coach Colin Sangster’s final game in charge of Caithness and he intends to bow out with a win which would be considered the biggest ever achievement in far north sport.

Can’t make the game? Our reporter Will Clark will be tweeting live updates from Broadwood Stadium from 1.15pm @NOSN_WClark.
