Caithness rogue parkers get shame-Facebooked treatment
A FACEBOOK site focusing on the long-time scourge of rogue parking in the centres of Thurso and Wick has gone viral.
The “Parked Like a Knob Caithness” Facebook site encourages people to send in photos of instances of rogue parking in the county. Within a few days of launching, it has had more than 2300 likes, with feedback varying from those who think they are doing a good public service to others who claim they are unfairly hounding drivers.
Photos of vehicles left on double yellow lines, straddling more than one parking space and at road junctions have been posted in a bid to shame errant motorists into mending their ways.
The initiative has been welcomed by Thurso Community Council which has regularly highlighted the problems being caused by indiscriminate parking.
Along with their counterparts in Wick, they have regularly called for action though the problem has worsened with the withdrawal of traffic wardens who used to patrol both towns.
