Caithness Relay for Life is set to raise the most amount of money this year for Cancer Research UK.

THE biggest fundraising event ever to be held in Caithness could be on course to raise the highest total in 2011 for Cancer Research UK.

Caithness Relay for Life surpassed all expectations when over £125,000 was raised last weekend. It was the highest grossing Relay for Life to be held in August and the second highest this year.

The charity’s senior relay executive, Louise Robertson, said that with money still coming in Caithness could yet claim the top spot.

"I had the pleasure of being attendance in Thurso on Saturday at one of the best Relay for Life events ever," she said. "With 65 teams entered it was the most participated event we staged this year.

"The second biggest in the UK only had 50 teams which have entered, which is still fantastic. But the response the Caithness showed was phenomenal.

"The biggest fundraising total we’ve have received from a single event so far was £140,000 in July.

"But with money still coming in there is every chance the Caithness Relay for Life could be our biggest event this year!"
