The pink moon name is a Native American reference to a wildflower which blooms at this time of year and blankets areas of North America in pink.

It was a fine chance to turn off the television, look out the window or step out the front door and do a spot of moon gazing.

Creative talents throughout Caithness did just that and took these images of this week's lunar light show as the moon came 40,000km closer to the Earth.

Clear skies and reduced air pollution caused by the coronavirus lockdown also helped many produce highly detailed images.

It was also a fine way of beating the lockdown blues as gazing at the moon is regarded by many to be especially soothing for the soul.

The pink moon reach a peak in the UK at 3.55am on Wednesday.
