Ferries between Caithness and Orkney face severe disruption over the next few days due to the impact of Storm Babet.

NorthLink Ferries, which operates between Scrabster and Stromness, has cancelled all of its services on Thursday, but says sailings could be affected through to Monday.

On Wednesday, it stated that its Friday morning crossings had a high probability of cancellation, while the afternoon sailings were under review, as were all Saturday sailings on the Pentland Firth.

Meanwhile, Pentland Ferries’ service between St Margaret’s Hope and Gills Bay at 5pm on Wednesday was cancelled as was its 6.45pm return service.

For all other services, it stated that sailings may be subject to short notice cancellation as conditions will continue to be assessed up to the time of departure.

Passengers are advised to check with the operator before travelling.
