Hearing and Sight Care (HSC), which supports people with hearing and/or sight loss in the far north, is the second organisation to have achieved the Volunteer Friendly Award (VFA) in Caithness since it was revamped and updated by Volunteer Scotland.
The VFA is a national standard based on investing in volunteers but is designed for smaller organisations and groups. The award is valid for three years and it takes a systematic look at how to recruit and support volunteers in an organisation. It is beneficial for organisations because it enables development and retention of volunteers and highlights the ongoing commitment to keep up to date with legislation.
Deirdre Aitken, manager of HSC said she was delighted to have gained the award and the certificate of recognition "will be displayed proudly" in the Wick and Thurso centres. The organisation will be safe in the knowledge that it adheres to "good practice and good governance", said Catherine Patterson of Caithness Voluntary Group.
She added: "The organisation values the commitment of their volunteers and we cannot thank them enough for their dedication. Gaining this award validates the high standard of this organisation."
