A CAITHNESS entrepreneur, award-winning company director and leading expert in cyber security has just been appointed to the board of VisitScotland – the national tourism agency for Scotland.

Dr Keith Nicholson, from East Mey, recently founded Cyber Security Scotland to provide independent guidance and advice to public bodies and business. He created the cyber security standard for all public bodies in Scotland and is a member of the Scottish Government’s advisory Cyber Resilience Leaders Board.

He brings this expertise to VisitScotland’s audit and risk committee and to Scotland’s tourism sector as a whole as it moves increasingly into digital environments.

Dr Nicholson explained: “This is a great opportunity and I am looking forward to contributing through my commercial, cyber security and digital experience to the extensive portfolio of work of Visit Scotland.

"As businesses adopt digital technologies and greater online services, so the risk of disruption through cyber-attacks becomes more significant. Most tourism businesses are SMEs with little or no access to cyber security expertise. I hope I can help VisitScotland offer guidance in this area to tourism firms.”

He joins John Thurso, who is chair of VisitScotland, as the second Caithness person appointed to its board.
