A Caithness-based gymnastics club is delighted how well its members have done over the last few weeks and the awards gained from trips south.
November shaped up to be a very busy one for both the gymnasts and coaches at Caithness Gymnastics Club (CGC).
Kerry Trueman, CGC head coach, said: "The month started when Fusion, the club's display team had a fantastic trip to Edinburgh to take part in Gymfest – a national festival – with over 50 teams showcasing their gymnastics and dance skills.
"They had a blast and made their coaches so proud as they gave it their all during both of their performances. Fusion is a small team made up of 18 gymnasts whose ages range from 7 to 16 and who train in a range of disciplines including team gym, two-piece competition and recreational gymnastics.
"The following weekend saw 20 gymnasts from the club's competition squad take part in the Highland floor and vault competition hosted by Inverness Gymnastics Club. The club's 8/9 team did particularly well taking home individual and team medals."
Results were as follows:
8/9 Beginners: Emily Broddell, silver on floor, 4th on vault and gold overall. Lana Simpson, bronze on vault. Team, silver – Emily Broddell, Lana Simpson, Phoebe Coghill, Isla Sutherland and Jenna Mackie.
10/11 Beginners: Emme Spence – 7th on floor and 9th overall. Team – 5th for Emme Spence, Niamh Bremner, Lily Moodie, Adele Henderson and Keira Mackie.
12/13 Beginners: Ava Steven – bronze on vault. Team – 6th for Ava Steven, Sophie Laird, Alba Norburn and Emily Sutherland.
12/13 Intermediate: Sophie MacDougall – 5th on floor, 10th on vault and 7th overall.
Kerry added: "And just this past weekend nine trainee coaches were put through their paces when the club hosted a UKCC Level 1 coaching course with an exam awaiting the new coaches in the New Year.
"The club prides itself on their coaching team being entirely voluntary and the new coaches increase the team to approximately 30 coaches/helpers training the children. With the clubs membership currently sitting at approximately 150, the gymnasts are sure to be in good hands for many years to come."
