DUNNET Bay Distillers has been included in a new tour drawn up to promote the best gin distillers, bars and visitor experiences in Scotland.

The producer of Rock Rose Gin is one of 12 locations on the Scotland Gin Trail, which gives people the chance to visit and drink at some of the country’s top gin locations.

The aim is to educate visitors about the craft of gin-making and sample the highest quality products on the market.

The Caithness distillery was started up by husband and wife Martin and Claire Murray in 2012. Since last year they have been offering summer tours around the plant.

The trail, launched earlier this week by the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, extends from Shetland to the central belt.

Mr Murray said it was a huge accolade for their distillery to be selected for the trail.

“The idea of a gin trail was launched due to the success of whisky trails and the increase of gin sales,” he said.

“We were delighted to be invited to become part of the trail because often it is difficult to get people to find our distillery.

“Being on the trail puts our location clearly on the map.

“It will be beneficial for overseas tourists wanting to find out about gin and I think it will be as successful for tourists from within the UK too.”
