Caithness dance teacher and pupils receive national recognition at DIVA awards

A Gillock woman is dancing on the ceiling after winning an award and receiving nine nominations for her pupils at the prestigious DIVA Awards 2023.

The dance awards were open to competitors from the UK and Ireland and Tracy Sinclair, principal with NRG Dance, said she was honoured to have won in the Professional Category and to have her pupils receive nine nominations as well.

Tracy, who has been teaching dance in Caithness since 1994, said: "I was totally overwhelmed when I received notification of my nominations. I am so very proud to have trained these dancers to a standard that gets them recognition from my peers.

"I am also honoured to have received a nomination [and win] in the Professional Category. I pride myself in running high quality, professional dance classes in Caithness ensuring correct technique is learnt whilst having fun learning to dance and would like to thank the selection committee for the recognition for myself and my dancers."

The children who were nominated are:

  • Evie Fraser from Thurso who was nominated in the Under 8 Freestyle and Under 8 SlowDance categories.
  • Thomas Nicholson from Wick was nominated in the Under 8 Freestyle and Under 8 SlowDance categories.
  • Nola Ross from Wick was nominated in the Under 12 Freestyle, Under 12 SlowDance and Junior Breakthrough Performer categories.

Tracy added: "There were over 40 nominees from all over the UK and Ireland so I was shocked and very humbled to be the winner of the DIVA 2023 Professional of The Year award."

Classes at NRG Dance meet the needs of any child wanting to dance. For kids who want to come along to dance and exercise once a week to kids who want to train multiple times a week and compete at the best dance competitions in the UK. The DIVA Awards event was held in Bridlington on February 24 and Tracy said she is looking forward to a spending a special evening with her nominees and their families.
