Caithness country band Silver re-uniting for one-off Easter show in Thurso
A TOP Caithness country band is staging a comeback for a one-off special Easter show at the Northern Nashville Country Music Club in Thurso.
Silver, featuring Colin McFeat on lead vocals and rhythm guitar; Willie Mitchell (lead guitar); Jocky Polson (bass) and Donnie Mathieson on drums, were a very popular act in the 1980s and early 1990s and played professionally all over the UK and abroad performing their kind of country and contemporary music.
Plans for a Silver reunion were mooted two years ago as part of a nostalgic concert to pay tribute to some of the stalwart acts at the club but the StarFest show fell victim to the coronavirus lockdown. The organisers then hoped it may be possible to get the various performers, including Geordie Jack and the Jacks, The Coasters, Nancy Foggo and Kate Bain, to play at an event this year. However, that did not prove possible due to availability and logistics so a smaller show is now taking place at the club venue at the Thurso Royal British Legion at the weekend.
Silver are looking forward to the event and have had a few rehearsals which has proved a challenge as Jocky lives in Swansea and Willie stays in Aberdeenshire but works all over the world.
Northern Nashville chairman Alan Miller attended a couple of the rehearsals and was impressed by what he heard. "It's like they never stopped playing", he said.
Silver will be supported by another local talent who is no stranger at the club. Keith Macleod, who has fronted the successful Slange Ava band and also played with Manson Grant and the Dynamos. In recent years, he has carved out a solo career with his version of traditional American country songs, as well as material written by his father, David, and more lately self-penned songs.

Also playing at the Easter show is Robbie and The Brothers. Robbie, who is from Aberdeen is a popular performer at Wick Triple C and Northern Nashville Country Music clubs. He recorded his last two CDs in Nashville and is returning to the USA to record another one later this year. It will feature mostly traditional American country music.
The Easter Special show is being held in Thurso Royal British Legion on Sunday April 17. "There are still a limited number of tickets left so booking is essential," said Alan who can be contacted on 07990039495.
