Caithness churches taking part in World Day of Prayer
Churches in Thurso, Wick and Castletown will be among those taking part in the 2025 World Day of Prayer next week.
The global ecumenical movement is led by Christian women who welcome everyone to join in prayer and action for peace and justice. A service is held annually on or near the first Friday in March.
Services will take place at Olrig Church of Scotland in Castletown, East Caithness Church of Scotland in Argyle Square, Wick, and the United Reformed Church in Castle Street, Thurso, all on March 7. The Castletown and Wick services will start at 2pm and the Thurso one at 6.30pm.
The service for 2025 was written by an ecumenical group of Christian women from the Cook Islands in the South Pacific. They prayed and reflected together over several years and developed the service in the context of peace, justice and unity.
The writers invite the world to pray for peace, justice and freedom of religion and movement. They call everyone to pray with women, refugees, homeless people and those who are sick, dying and grieving.

They refer to the climate crisis and ask the world to commit to repair what has been destroyed. Finally, they ask for all to be treated with justice and love.
A message on the World Day of Prayer Scotland website says: “We welcome you to join with us in prayer and action for peace and justice throughout the world.”
